The journey begins
How long have you been at Talos, and what first brought you here?
I started with Talos in August 2020. An opportunity came up and they were interested in my experience of recruiting permanent candidates for the automation, automotive and life science sectors. Talos was always known for being a high-performing contract recruitment business locally but also within the sector. After a short meeting with a couple of the directors, they explained their vision to bring a permanent division to Talos as part of an expansion strategy – something I was well placed for and wanted to be part of.
What was Talos like when you first started? How has it evolved over the years?
Aside from face masks, social distancing and plenty of hand sanitizer(!) it was a small team of 9 consultants, nearly all of whom were senior/lead and above. It was evident there was a lot of talent and drive and that was backed up by the team’s incredible results. Several of the team were booked on to the annual high performers trip whilst others had set brand and group records. Since then, the brand has grown to 16 consultants, located between UK and US, and the next generation of Talos recruiters are in and laying the foundations for a strong future.
Can you share a standout memory from your time here?
There’s been so many memories over the past 5 years. We’ve laughed until we’ve cried so many times, and we’ve had the opportunity to take part in a lot of incentives. I couldn’t pick just one!
Why Talos?
What has kept you at Talos for so long?
I’ve felt since day 1 that everyone in Talos has a reason for being here, which goes much deeper than just to own nice things or look good. We are extremely competitive, not just for ourselves, but for the team, which is an addictive environment to be in. We get a lot of recognition for our efforts and reap a lot of rewards when we’ve done our jobs well.
What do you love most about working here?
I love the market; automation is ever-evolving and here to stay. I’ve also had the opportunity to travel to various different countries to visit our industry leading customers.
How has Talos supported your growth and career?
I joined as a Senior Consultant and quickly progressed to Lead Consultant. The business then invested in me to complete management training, and I now head up our permanent division consisting of 3 other consultants.
The business also put a small group of us through retained search training, which has been game-changing for our perm solutions offering.
Team culture
How would you describe the culture at Talos?
Competitive! Things that the Talos team loves include kebabs, football, darts, NFL, gaming, dogs, being the best, playing in bands, cous-cous (just me), tattoos, family and travelling. Not necessarily in that order!
What’s one thing about the team here that makes it special?
I really believe it’s the depth of our industry knowledge – I’ve never met a team of recruiters who know their niche more than the consultants here.
If you had to sum up the Talos experience in three words, what would they be?
Fast-paced, internationally-focused, expanding. Not exactly three words (many thanks to the hyphen).
Looking to the future
What excites you about the future of Talos?
We’ve got a punchy target and vision for the next 3-5 years and we have to get there as quickly as possible. With that target comes opportunity for everyone involved, not to mention incentives and rewards!
With the new website launch, what’s one thing you’d want new visitors to know about the company?
We really are very good at what we do!
What advice would you give to someone just joining Talos today?
Come in, work VERY hard, ask a lot of questions, bring your ideas to the table, speak up, WIN.
