Today, we’re talking to Calum Brown, one of our longest-serving team members, whose journey with STR and Talos spans over a decade.
The journey’s start
Calum, how long have you been at Talos, and what first brought you here?
I’ve been with STR for more than ten years. Before Talos, I worked across two other STR brands, starting in healthcare before moving into procurement & supply chain. When that brand was discontinued, I was lucky enough to be offered a place at Talos. I joined in 2018, and I haven’t looked back since.
What was Talos like when you first started, and how has it changed?
A few of us joined at the same time; Jack and Ben V are still here now. Back then, Talos was a small team, and our arrival pretty much doubled the headcount. We already knew each other, which made settling in and learning the industry much easier.
While the faces and management have changed over time, our core values remain the same: grow the business, enjoy the journey, and be the best (and most profitable) brand in STR.
Can you share a standout memory from your time here?
Without a doubt, the long weekend in Barcelona. Let’s just say it involved Spanish lager, paella and sports bars with friends. I can’t give too many details; what happens in Barcelona stays in Barcelona!
Brand loyalty
You’ve stayed with Talos for a long time. What’s kept you here?
I genuinely enjoy working in automation, which is something I couldn’t say about my previous industries. Having a real interest in the work and constantly learning makes a huge difference. Plus, being part of a strong, well-led team has been a big reason I’ve stayed.
What do you love most about working here?
The camaraderie. We’re bound together by our love of sports, the banter, and the occasional boozy night out.
How has Talos supported your growth?
Switching from permanent to contract recruitment was a game-changer for me. The fast pace suits my style perfectly, and I had guidance from some of the best contract consultants around. Talos and STR have always been supportive of career progression, providing resources and encouragement to help everyone move forward.
Culture and team spirit
How would you describe the culture at Talos?
It’s like a close-knit family. Everyone genuinely gets along and supports each other. We work hard and push ourselves to be the best, but we also make time for fun, like starting our own office darts league.
And what makes the team here special?
The genuine support. From day one, you feel part of a family where everyone cares about your success. There’s a real willingness to share knowledge, offer guidance, and celebrate wins together.

What excites you about the future of Talos?
Automation is only growing; demand is increasing and technology is constantly evolving. I’m glad to be involved, learning and meeting people I wouldn’t normally cross paths with.
